Chaperone names will be picked tomorrow.  I only have four volunteers at this point, so there is still room for more names.  Chaperone permission slips, lunch forms and money is due next Friday.  On Monday, I will send home a second copy of the packet for those who may have misplaced it.

Social Studies - Study for Quiz on Friday

Wednesday, September 27, 2017

Wednesday, September 27, 2017

Chaperone names for the Madison Trip are due Friday morning.  Friday I will confirm the list of chaperones.  Remember you must have had a completed Criminal Background Check done this year and bring the card they mail you the morning of the Madison trip or you not allow to be a chaperone.  This is District Policy and information on how to complete a background check has been sent home at least two times this year.  If you misplaced the information, the school secretaries can help you with the website you need to go to.  It does take 2 or 3 weeks for the entire process to be complete.

Tomorrow is Packers Day.

On Monday the first Math quiz of the year was sent home.  Once or twice a week I will be giving short quizzes based on these same benchmark standards.  I do not feel that one piece of evidence, one quiz, gives me a true look at your child's abilities.

Homework:

Reading - Read 20 minutes

Math - study flashcards

Social Studies - Because of MAP testing the quiz has been moved to Friday.

There is no school tomorrow because of Staff Development.

We will be taking the MAP Math on Wednesday afternoon.  Please make sure that your child is well rested so that they can do their best.

On Friday we will be picking for chaperones for the Madison Field Trip.  If you are interested, please fill out the chaperone form and send it back to school by Friday morning.  Remember, you MUST also have a Criminal Background Check done this school year - even if you have had them in the past - and I must physically see a card that the Background Check company will send you before you will be allowed to chaperone.  Information on how to do the Criminal Background Check has been sent home a few times already this year.  If you need the information again, the school secretaries can help you.

Thank you to parents who are already volunteering to be chaperones for the Madison Field Trip.  Please remember that you must have a Criminal Background Check done before the trip and you MUST bring the card they send you to show me in person on the morning of the trip.  If you do not physically have the card with you, per District Policy, I am not allowed to let you go on the trip.  The background check needs to be done ASAP if you have not already done one this school year. Information has been sent home a few times about how to do this.  If you misplaced the information, please contact the school office so they can let you know what website to use.

Today I sent home a Math Strategies Chart with your child.  I am hoping that these examples will help clarify the strategies we are using this year.  Many should be familiar from last year.

Book Orders are due Friday, if you would like to purchase anything.

Another great week in Fourth Grade.  Next week we are going to begin our writing unit on Realistic Fiction.  This will give yoru child many more opportunities to use Google Classroom for their writing.  Remember, if they can read their school email from home they can pull up Google Classroom to show you what they are doing.

Homework:

I am sorry that there was not a blog yesterday. I had to attend an unplanned meeting after school and it lasted longer than we thought it would.

Tomorrow is picture day.  All students will have their picture taken, even if they are not purchasing anything.  I do not know the time of day that we will be called down for pictures.

They have extended the deadline for the free passes for Clovis Night at the Menasha Blue Jays Football Game.  There are still a few passes that will be handed out at school for students who bring in their form tomorrow morning.  There will not be any free passes handed out at the game.

Information came home today regarding the Madison Field Trip and the steps needed to fill out a Criminal Background Check.  Please note that even if you are picked as a chaperone for the trip, if you do not have proof that your Criminal Background Check has cleared, per District policy, you can not go on the trip.  Get the background check done, even if you are considering going.

We attended a demonstration on the AfterBeat Music program.  Students in Fourth Grade can choose to play a string instrument, if they are interested.  Information will be coming home about the Instrument Exploration Night tomorrow.  You can go to any of the four nights listed on the slip that best fits your schedule.  You do not have to just attend the night at Clovis.

Friday is Clovis Family Night at the Menasha Blue jays game.  Thursday is the last day you can turn in the slip for a free family pass.  There will NOT be free passes available at the game.

Friday is School Picture Day.  Please send the money in that day, if you are interested in purchasing any pictures.

We are using Google Classroom for Writing this year.  If your child is able to log into their school email at home, they can log into Google Classroom and show you what they are working on in Writing.

Tuesday is the Library Card Party at the Library.  Please attend if you are able.

Friday is Clovis Family Night at the Menasha Bluejay Football Game.  Remember in order to get a free family pass, you must return your slip by Thursday. There will not be any free passes at the game.
I sent home another copy of the Beginning of the Year Paperwork, if I have not received it from your child.  Please complete it and send it back ASAP.  There is information we need to use on our Madison Field Trip that is planned for October 11.

More information about the Madison Field Trip will be sent home at a later date but if you are interested in chaperoning you MUST have a Criminal Background Check done and cleared before the trip.  These can take up to 4 weeks to come back.  If you do not have information on how to complete a background check, please contact the school office.  The background checks are all done online and the secretaries have the website address.

For those who have not signed up to receive this blog by email I can let you know that the blog has been delivered between 6:00 and 6:20 each evening.  I unfortunately do not have control when it is sent; it will be delivered between 5:00 and 7:00  but it tends to be delivered sometime in the 6:00 range.

Please do not respond or write me through the blog.  I only have this email sent up for the purpose of the blog and do not check it for communication purposes.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email through my school email   fritschs@mjsd.k12.wi.us

Thank you to those who have turned in their beginning of the year paperwork.  If you have not, please do so ASAP.  We are in the process of planning our Madison Field Trip but we do need information from the packet.

Information came home today regarding a Library Card Party on Tuesday, Fluoride Wash offered at school and Book Orders.

For those of you who are using my link on the school website to get to my webpage, I was able to edit the page and add the Cougar Paw.  Either the sentence or the Cougar Paw will link to my webpage now.

Picture Day is September 15.  Information is coming home today.  Please send in money on the day of pictures.  I do not anywhere to store it.

Thank you to those who have already filled out and sent in your beginning of the year paperwork.  If you have not done so, please do so as soon as possible.

Yesterday students who ride a bus were given a sheet of expectations by Mrs. Richter.  Mrs. Richter needs this sheet signed by parents and turned in.

At today's Kickoff Assembly students were told about a new program that Clovis is starting called Buddy Patrol.  There will be four students from each grade level selected to be part of the Buddy Patrol.  Please talk with your child to see if they are interested.  Tomorrow interested students will be given an application to fill out at home.

Homework:

Reading - read 20 minutes

Math - practice flashcards
Home/Connections 1 - 2.  This homework is for students who are in my math group.  Those students who are in Ms. Izzo's goup received a different assignment.  Home/Connections 1-2 is linked on the September Math Calendar on my webpage, if the homework is lost or forgotten.  If you are able to access the webpage but not able to print, I told students they can just write their answers on a piece of paper and I will accept that as being finished.

I know that the challenge problems can be difficult but it is important that your child at least try the problem and not skip it or put down "I don't know."  The trying will help with their math independence and build confidence when they see similar problems on a math test.
