Tomorrow is Crazy Sock Day to end Kindness Week.  Also, posters and Kindness Checklists are also due tomorrow.

Reading minutes for January are due Monday.  February Reading Calendars were sent home today.  If you lost your January Reading Calendar a note in the agenda or an email would be fine to verify your child read at least 400 minutes during the month.

Today was the Kickoff for the Kindness Week Challenge.  Information went home on Thursday about the week.  Students received their good deed check-off sheets today.

Any student who attended the Coding Club meeting during lunch yesterday received a permission slip to have filled out by next month's meeting to make a code.org account.  If your child needs another sheet I have a few extra.

Sledding is tomorrow.  Please make sure that your child has the appropriate outdoor clothes for tomorrow - boots, snow pants, coat, etc.  Also make sure that all their work is complete.

A letter went home today regarding sledding.  Our first grade buddies have earned a sledding party and have invited us to attend.  Weather permitting, the sledding will be on Friday during TGIF.  The letter explains the requirements to attend.  If your child can not attend, they will have TGIF as usual.

Tomorrow is Math Night.  If you have forgotten to turn in your slip, Mrs. Henderickson will accept them until 8:30 tomorrow morning.

This is just a reminder about the fourth grade outdoor recess policy when it comes to snow.  It is a little different than third grade.  Your child needs to have winter boots - not fashion boots - to leave the blacktop.  They need to have winter boots and snow pants is they want to play games that may involve them falling into the snow, such as soccer, football, sliding down the slide, playing on the snow mountains, etc.  If they do not have snow pants but have boots, they may leave the blacktop but basically are just be allowed to walk around on the snow.  If you have any questions, please refer to your Parent Handbook sent home at the beginning of the school year.

Mrs. Richter made an announcement today that students are not allowed to play on the snow mountains after school.  They are not supervised after 3:25, so this becomes a health/safety concern.  Students who have stayed to play on the mountains have been getting home later than usual, causing some parents to be worried.

The MAP Testing schedule has come out.  We will be taking the MAP Math assessment on Monday, January 25 after lunch and the MAP Reading portion on Wednesday, January 27 after lunch.  Please make every effort NOT to schedule appointments for these dates and times.  Students typically feel more comfortable and are able to show their true ability when they take the test with the class and not in a make-up test setting.

We are finishing up Unit 2 - Opinion Writing this week. Next week, we will begin a two-week study on Biographies.  Your child had the opportunity to check out a biography during library time today.  If they were unable to check out books they could choose a biography from the classroom library.  Some students said that they had a biography at home that they wanted to use.  If your child is using a biography from home, please remind them to bring it to school.

Welcome back.  I hope that everyone had a nice Winter Break.

A note went home today regarding Math Night on Thursday, January 14.  Please be aware that there is a deadline of Tuesday, January 12 to RSVP so that the proper amount of food can be ordered.

Please send in your December Reading Minutes, if you have not already done so.  I will extend the Acknowledgement until tomorrow due to Winter Break.

MAP Testing is coming in January.  We will take the Math portion first, followed by the Reading Session.  I will give you the dates and times once the schedule is released.
