As you are helping and/or looking over your child's math homework, please make sure that they include the labels.  This is especially important in area and perimeter.  On the test they need to know that area is square units, square inches, etc and that perimeter is units, inches, etc.

Tomorrow is Blue and Gold Day, although from what I have been hearing I think there will be more than just a splash of red and white mixed in.

We have over 300 Class Cougar Paws.  We have voted to celebrate with our First Grade Buddies.  On Tuesday, we will be wearing pajamas, slippers and bringing in a pillow, blanket or stuffed animal.  We will spend part of the morning playing board games with our buddies.  The library has games that we can borrow and Ms. Svejda and I also have games.  If your child would like to bring a game from home please make sure it is something that a first grader could learn to play.  There will NOT be electronics allowed.

Book Orders are due tomorrow.

The second fang is due Monday.

I received some additional information about the state test, Forward, today.  There will be a section that will test your child on their listening skills.  Your child MUST have headphones or ear buds to listen to the information in this session.  The headphones/ear buds don't have to be fancy - the ones purchased at the Dollar Tree would work just fine.

I am declaring Friday Blue and Gold Day.  The Michigan Wolverines are playing the Wisconsin Badgers in basketball on Sunday evening.  I have heard rumors that some students may wear red and white that day.

I was given a study today regarding reading minutes and the link to standardized testing.  Students who read at least 20 minutes per day typically score in the 90th percentile on standardized testing, students who read 5 minutes per day typically score in the 50th percentile on standardized testing and students who read 1 minute per day typically score in the 10th percentile or below.  I showed this data to my students today but I think they had a hard time understanding percentile.  I just explained to them the more they read the better they will do on testing.
