We began Spelling today.  Your child is in one group for word sorting and another group for Spelling words and packets.  The word sorts help your child recognize the similarities between different word families.  The Spelling packets help with other aspects of Language and Grammar.  Since we are working on different skills, the words will not be the same the majority of the time.  Your child will be given a spelling test on Friday for their spelling words only.  Spelling packets and spelling sorts are due when they walk into the room on Friday morning to be considered on time.  They will be given some time in class to work on them Monday - Thursday, but may need to bring the packs/sorts home to complete, especially in the first few weeks.  Groups were picked based on the colors in the Olympic Rings.  Spelling words and packets for the Yellow group and Green group are posted on my web page for you to run-off if needed.  Blue groups members are expected to keep track of their packets and only list words and the glossary are posted on-line.  There is also a spot on the Agenda where students are asked to write in their weekly spelling words to practice at home.  Students have been reminded to check the spelling carefully when writing the words, as I won't be checking for accuracy.

Tomorrow is picture day.  Please note the pictures are usually taken in grade order, starting with the youngest children first.  We may have Phy Ed and lunch recess before your child's picture is taken.  All children will have their pictures taken for the yearbook, even if you choose to not order a package.
